Jill in the News: Missouri House looking over Senate plan calling for governor to appoint lieutenant governor if seat is vacant

Legislation that’s been endorsed by the Missouri Senate would add certainty to the chain of command if embattled Governor Eric Greitens ends up leaving office.

The upper chamber passed a bill Friday that calls on the governor to appoint a lieutenant governor if the seat is vacant. Currently, there is no line of succession to become lieutenant governor. Under the Constitution, the governor fills vacancies in public office through appointment.
