Ladue News: Spirit of Provident Gala

Honoring the dedication and compassion of community members was a centerpiece of the 2017 Spirit of Provident Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown St. Louis. The Spirit of Provident award was bestowed on Ambassador George (Bert) Walker III and his wife Carol for their generous service and unwavering commitment to the community. This was followed by cocktails, a silent auction, and dinner.

Missouri Senator Jill Schupp was awarded the Betty Sims Mental Health Advocacy Award for work on recent legislation mandating that school districts provide both suicide prevention, and intervention training to all staff. For his volunteerism on the Crisis Line, John Walsh received the Jackie Kaiser Volunteer Award. To round out the evening, baseball great Darrel Strawberry gave a keynote speech that celebrated his triumphs and addressed his struggles. He emphasized the need for faith and reliance on agencies, like Provident, to help people in their darkest times. Guests were then treated to jazz music over coffee and cordials.
